On the 29th of March 2014, Traffina Foundation kicked off the “1 kit save 2” project in Abuja. At this event, New Clean Birth kits were unveiled as part of the organizations effort to improve maternal and child health in Nigeria and also to scale up MDG 4&5 as 2015 gets closer.
Traffina Foundation has set up a target to provide 50,000 clean birth kits free to pregnant women in rural communities by 2015 as part of our support to encourage facility delivery and to ensure the survival of mother and child at birth.
Just a quick reminder, this project is based on individual donations from Nigerians and across the globe.
The New clean birth kits are already in circulation some health facilities across Nigeria- NOW IN KEBBI STATE .
At Maiyama General Hospital Kebbi state , Dr. Zainab Bagudu, the Managing Director at Medicaid Radio-Diagnostics provided seven hundred (700) kits free to show care and support the rural women of Kebbi state with Clean Delivery Kit (MAMA KIT) which consists of basic items of need during pregnancy/childbirth as to ease the cost of delivery items which limits many families to access better care at health facilities.
It is on record that every single day Nigeria losses about 2300 under five & 145 women from pregnancy and child delivery complications including infection which accounts for 15% of the burden. This makes our dear country the second latest contributor to the under-five and maternal rate in the world. Each year around the world 1 million newborns and mothers die of infections soon after child birth and this burden remains high amongst poor families.
